Fundamentals is a division of video production company Covalent specializing in producing videos for crowd funding campaigns. The identity is inspired by the design of bank notes, and acts as a seal of quality as well as highlights the trust the Fundamentals team puts in the projects they support. It projects the feeling of being refined and authoritative, yet familiar and honest.
Christopher Sprowls is a fine art photographer based in Pittsburgh, PA. An identity was created to encompass both Chris' fine art photo work as well as his event photography. Centered around the historical strength given to personal monograms, the design aims to connect the mark to the person behind the brand. The CS monogram alludes to human connection and the pride of working with ones own hands.
Kris Mortensen is a wildly talented Videographer and Motion Graphics artist based in Pittsburgh, PA. I was commissioned to develop an identity for his personal brand that reflected Kris' personality as well as his array of professional skills. Inspired by mid-century travel signage, the Kris Mortensen mark offers the appeal of a one-stop shop and is heavily rooted in tradition. It reflects superior service and uncompromising quality.
Hamilton Spice Co.
Hamilton Spice is a fictional company stemming from a past student project. Based on research of an existing company, the project was later revisited and additional branding was refined and expanded. The identity is meant to promote sustainability, transparency and collaboration while the primary mark is representative of the unique spice blends Hamilton produces. Packaging and advertising aims to clearly illustrate fair-trade and ethical sourcing.
Pharoah's Hookah Café
Pharaoh's Hookah Café was located in Leechburg, Pennsylvania and acted as a social gathering place for young adults in the small town. Built in a repurposed century-old church, the property was home to a vast collection of Egyptian and Middle-Eastern decor gathered from the owner's travels. The Pharaoh's brand was developed to reflect the unique atmosphere of the Café.
Noah Purdy is an editorial photographer based in Pittsburgh, PA with a passion for documenting craftsman and artisans at work. I was approached to develop an identity system that reflected both this passion, as well as the community-driven spirit behind mid-century small business. Inspired by vintage trademarks, the resulting identity aims to reflect skilled workmanship, hand-made quality, and pride.
Rustbelt Almanac is a quarterly print magazine published by Noah Purdy and myself that highlights the creative working-class throughout the region.
The identity design includes the Rustbelt Almanac mascot, Rusty.
Pitt Secular Alliance
Secular Alliance is a student group based on University of Pittsburgh's campus. I was contracted by members of the group to develop a mark that reflects the agenda of promoting equality and the importance of scientific reasoning in governmental and social practices.
Burghsounds Logo Concepts
Burghsounds.com is a Pittsburgh-based music resource network. Though ultimately not used by the client, a series of logo and identity concepts were drafted for the website. The resulting marks illustrate interconnectivity in the music community and the reverberations of a city on the rise.
